In today's Internet age, finding the best apartment rentals is just a matter of knowing which websites to visit. Star Reviews' Favorite Rent.com Feature: Who can pass up $100, no strings attached? We really like the fact that Rent.com rewards renters for using their website to find an apartment and sign a lease.
About Rent.com Apartment Rental Website: Rent.com is an eBay website, backed by one of the biggest and most successful companies on the Internet. The site offers free rental searches and they are one of the only apartment rental services that offer free online roommate searches. The site lists millions of available apartment rentals, with thousands more being added every day. The listings on the site provide apartment seekers with the address and phone number of each property as well as a detailed description, professional photos, floor plans and 360° virtual tours. You can also sign up at the site to have the latest listings sent right to your email account.
The Rent.com Experience: The Rent.com website was extremely easy to navigate and the design layout was both functional and attractive. Performing a search for both an apartment and a roommate was fast and easy and the site features allowed us to filter our results by our specific needs. The site did not have an option to restrict our search results to "downtown" Chicago, but rather divided results into neighborhoods. The added features, such as moving quotes, the roommate finder and the moving supplies resources will be very useful for apartment seekers.
The Search:
In the process of writing the apartment rental service reviews, our team entered the same search criteria into each apartment finder website in order to compare the results returned. The search criteria included all apartments in downtown Chicago with a price range of $500 to $1,000 per month that allowed cats and/or small dogs. We could not, however, perform this search on Rent.com.
The Rent.com website would not allow us to search only the "downtown" area of Chicago, and as a result we were bombarded with hundreds of results with each Chicago search we performed. It also would not allow us to search for the $500 to $1,000 price range, instead requiring that we search between $400 and $1,000.
Customer Support:
Rent.com offered a Renter Help section that provided in-depth answers to frequently asked questions. They also offer customer support via a "Renter Questions" link located in the navigation menu on the left-hand side of the Renter Help page. When we submitted our question, we received a response within one business day and our question was answered knowledgeably.
Upside:
Millions of listings, free online roommate searches, $100 reward.
Downside:
Difficult to navigate the search functions. No telephone support.
